Trojans sweep at Fayetteville 71st

The top-ranked Trojan varsity blasts Fayetteville 71st 87-47 to complete the sweep at the Falcons. JV Trojans claim 81-42 thrashing and Freshman squad nips 71st 49-41. Coach Eddie Gray's 2-0 Trojans shoot a blistering 68% with several highlight reel dunks to put away 71st. Demetric Horton & Trayvon Ferrell adds 18 each, KD Burt 15, Jaren Ellerbee 15 &  Donovan Evans 11 as the defending conference champs have four double-digit scorers for the second consecutive night. But the bench sees plenty of playing time as everyone plays and 9 score. Evans hits from behind the arc to complete 24-15 first quarter and the road team pulls away from that point. The Trojans force 17 Falcon turnovers and convert most into fastbreak dunks and layups. Senior KD Burt moves into 14th all-time in Garner history with 895 points, passing Gavin Wilson ('12) and 5th all-time in varsity games played with 89.

JV destroys the Falcons

Christian Little paces the good guys with 13, AJ Daniels scores 11 and David Cass 10 off the bench hitting 4-of-5 shots including two from the arc. Daveon Dunn has 9 points, 6 assists, 6 steals in very limited play as the game reaches blowout status early. The patented Trojan defense is relentless forcing 71st to 22 turnovers and just 44% shooting from the floor. Garner converts the takeaways into 28 fastbreak points and easy buckets. Garner records 11 steals with Dunn causing six. Coach Bloms squad improves to 2-1

Freshman edge 71st
A tight game throughout, Julius Peacock free throws puts Garner up with 36 seconds left and Ty Barron dish to Josiah Pender lets the Freshman Trojans pull away 49-44 at Fayetteville. Pender leads Garner with 13, Barron has 11 and Peacock & Qi Smith 10 points each. Garner converts 17-of-26 from the line to to negate 40% from the floor, including just 2-of-12 from the arc. Barron leads all players with 9 rebounds and the 26-22 rebound margin minimized Freshman Falcon second chances.

JV Trojans open with win over Clayton for 66 straight

Coach Bloms JV Trojans survive to take their season opening win over Clayton 54-51. Garner musters just 40.7% shooting from the floor and uncharacteristic 19 turnovers to scratch out the 66th straight win for the program after two consecutive undefeated seasons. AJ Daniels leads a balanced scoring attack with 11, Justus Wall and Christian Little have 9 points each. Both teams show alot of rust in the first half, with Garner shooting an abysmal 28% with 12 turnovers. Fortunately the Comets manage just 25% to trail 25-17 at the break. The JV Comets open with 5-0 run after the break but the Garner defense stiffens to cause enough Comet turnovers to stretch their lead to 45-30. Ben Hines knocks down a couple of 3's (the only buckets from the arc for Garner on the night, just 2-for-11 total) in the 14-6 run by the home team. But the Comets match that with 13-2 run to cut the margin to just 52-48 inside a minute left. Daveon Dunn (4 steals, 6 assists on the night) steal and score and then dish to Little gives Garner 54-51 lead with 13 seconds left. A Comet heave at the buzzer is well off for the non-conference win for the good guys who host Rolesville Monday night. Coach Bloms improves to 183-34 career record

Freshman Trojans fall in OT
Garner Freshman squad edged in OT 91-83 to the Comets. Josiah Pender leads the Trojans with 23, Amari Wood adds 21, Brandon Huffstetler adds 12 with four BIG three's & Ty Barron has 10 & 13 rebounds. The game is nip-n-tuck affair throughout with each team reaching double-digit leads but 9 ties and 19 lead changes total. The Freshman Trojans edge out 43.9% to 42.7% shooting margin but the Comets win the boards 46-40 despite Barron game-high with Pender just missing a double-double with 9 rebounds. The Freshman Comets make their free throws down the stretch to pad 21-16 margin from the charity stripe. Garner hosts the South Wake Sabres Monday afternoon 3:30PM

Lady Trojans drop non-conference game
Coach Mays Lady Trojans fall to 0-2 with 68-31 loss to the Comets. The JV girls improve to 2-0 with 46-30 win over Clayton. The girls teams play at Rolesville Monday, Nov. 20th, doubleheader starts with JV at 5:30PM
