Head Coach Gus Ulrich (’80) fires opening round even par 72 at the the 2018 Senior PGA Championship at Harbor Shores GC in Benton Harbor, MI. The Head Coach of the DIII National Championship qualifying Sandhills Flyers Golf team is competing in his 6th professional major after winning the Carolinas PGA Section Senior Shootout at TPC Myrtle Beach.. His Sandhills Community College men's golf team won the 2018 Region X Tournament Championship. The 6th consecutive year, the Flyers qualified for the NJCAA Division III National Championship tournament which will be hosted in Chautauqua Golf Club in N.Y. on June 5-8th. The Flyers captures the Eagles' Cup at Eagle Ridge GC. The Flyers 618 edges Fayetteville Tech by five strokes. Sandhills takes first at The FTCC Invitational at Keith Hills GC. Ulrich won the Carolinas PGA Section SR Shootout at TPC Myrtle Beach. Ulrich shot 145 in the 2017 Senior PGA Championship at Trump National in Washington DC just missing the 145 cut line. The course is where Ulrich’s Sandhills squads won the 2014 national title and runner-up finishes in 2013 and 2015. Ulrich shot 3rd round 70 at the National Senior PGA Championship. Ulrich opened with rounds of 68-70. He carded 73-75 at the 2016 US Senior Golf Championship at Scioto Country Club, Columbus, Ohio, missing the cut by a single stroke competing in his 4th national championship. He won the USGA Senior Sectional title at Daniel Island Club (Ralston Creek) – Charleston, SC with a 69. Ulrich is the Director of Golf Operations at Pinewild GC in Pinehurst & Head Coach at 2014 NJCAA National Champion Sandhills Junior College.

Dalton Forster (’17) joins the cast of "Horn In The West" this summer, beginning June 23rd. The Appalachian State University Department of Theatre and Dance production of "Sweeney Todd" after multiple roles with GMHS Drama & NC Theatre Conservatory Theatre. His theater credits include Hairspray, As You Like It, Disney’s High School Musical, and Eurydice.

Assistant Coach Kameron Smith (’08) Trojan legend Kameron Smith ('08) joins the Saint Augustine football staff of Head Coach Tim Chavous. Smith previously served as QB Coach at Hampton University before joining the Falcons, which include 2016 All-CIAA Rookie team selection Desmond Quinerly & Justin Chavis (’13). Coach Smith is the Winston-Salem State all-time leading passer after leading the Rams to 14-1 record and the DII National Title Game in 2012 and compiling a career 21-2 record as starting QB. tball. Smith, the all-time leading passer for Winston-Salem State throwing for 3,312 yards and 43 touchdowns during his senior season despite sitting out the second half of several games.

LaCherie Clarke (’14) named United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Atlantic Region for Shaw track. The 2018 100m CIAA Champion recorded a school record in the 200m at the conference championship with 24.46 time, breaking her own mark. Miss Clarke claims the 100m title at CIAA Track Championship with the best time of the day 12.04. Clarke earned bronze in the 200m with 24.46 time, breaking her own school record & her Shaw 4x100 relay team posts 48.61. The 4X400 relay team won their heat at 2018 Penn Relays with 3:56.38 at the prestigious meet. Clarke broke the Shaw University 200m school record with 24.79 at the Aggie Invitational at NCA&T. Her 4x400 relay team established new program record at 3:52.41. Clarke runs 59.90 in 400m at JCSU Invitational & wins the 200m at the Fred Hardy Invitational at Richmond. Clarke runs 25.67 to take her 2nd straight win this spring season for Shaw Track. She claimed the 200m title at Trojan Challenge hosted by Mount Olive with a 26.12. Her 4x100 relay team earns 2nd with 48.46 time. Clarke runs 28:37.9 for Bears cross-country at the Shumake HBCU Challenge. Miss Clarke ran 28:26 at the adidas Cross-Country Challenge hosted by NC State. & 28:48:03 at the Virginia State University Opener in Petersburg, VA & recorded 25.91 in 200m for Shaw University track at the 2017 CIAA Championships. Clarke ran 12.67 in 100m for the Bears. Clarke ran a season best 25.49 in the 200m for Shaw University Track at the 2017 Aggie Invitational hosted by North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, NC. Her 4X100 relay team runs 48.64 at the 2016 CIAA Track Championships good for 5th. Clarke ran 26.34 in the 200m for 11th in the CIAA & she earned 10th in the 100m.

The Grissoms recently welcomed the arrival of Wade Billy Grissom. Captain Grissom promoted to Company Commander. He is currently is assigned to the Marine Barracks Washington, D.C., the oldest active post in the Marine Corps & led the Presidential Joint Task Force at the Presidential Inauguration. The storied post was founded in 1801 by President Thomas Jefferson and Lt. Col. William Ward Burrows, the second commandant of the Marine Corps.

Congratulations to Ensign Elizabeth Pittman (‘14) on her graduation from US Naval Academy. Upon commissioning, she will be stationed in Pensacola FL while attending Naval Flight School. She earned 2018 Penn Mutual Life of Significance Award nominee. The award is presented to a collegiate student-athlete participating in the College Rugby Championship who exemplify integrity, respect, and giving back to the community. Pittman, Platoon Commander and Brigade Honor Congress member at the Naval Academy recognized for her service with Relay for Life, YMCA, and mission trips to New Orleans and Virginia serving underprivileged communities and helped rebuild New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. The Midshipman (8-1) compete in the CRC June 2-3rd. Pittman was featured 23rd Company Fighting Hellfish of The Week. She will be attending flight school after graduating in May. Navy rugby captured Championship at Lancaster PA with 27-0 win over Siena.

Wake Forest junior Savannah Baber ('15) earns the Morris and Stewart Udall Scholarship. The Udall Foundation awards scholarships to college sophomores and juniors for leadership, public service, and commitment to issues related to Native American nations or to the environment. Baber is majoring in English and political science/ international affairs. She plans to attend law school with the goal of advocating on behalf of tribal land and environmental stewardship.
Suzie Martin Huening (’82) featured on best selling author/publisher, John Spender's Journey to Riches series. Huening is Fitness America Masters Champion & previously won the Master’s Physique Championship in her outstanding fitness competitive career. Ms. Huening claims first in the Fitness America Masters Figure at the Fitness Universe competition in Miami. Huening previously won the Master’s Physique Champion & 2nd in a competitive figure division at the 2015 NPC Max Muscle Competition in Las Vegas
Kristen Powell (’13) joins Madera Outdoors as an Ambassador for their products in Wyoming. Madera is a conservation ally, with a mission of preserving nature with proceeds from their sales. (They plant two trees for each hammock sold!) The All-CAA athlete graduated from UNCW where she starred for Seahawk volleyball. Miss Powell led UNCW first CAA title last season & NCAA appearance. Powell earned All-State honors in 2015, 3rd-team All-CAA selection & CAA All-Tournament honoree as well as Colonial Athletic Association Player-of-the-Week for Aug. 31st.
Brian Ray Norris ('91) stars in Broadway production of "SpongeBob SquarePants The Musical" at The Palace Theater. Norris' Broadway debut in the 12-time Tony nominated show after performances in A Dog Story and touring cast of Mamma Mia! as well as TV credits in Law & Order SVU.

Rachel Hardin ('13) named finalist for Beginning Teacher of the Year for Johnston County. Miss Hardin, Elementary Education graduate of East Carolina, teaches 2nd grade at West View Elementary. Excellent work by our Trojan!
Kelsey Bryan (’14) outstanding college career ends in CAA Tournament loss. The 2018 Thomas V. Mosley Award led the Seahawks to a record-tying 103 wins over the last four years. UNCW reached the CAA Championship for the second straight season and reached the 20-win plateau for the third consecutive season. She earned conference defensive Player of the Year honors last season & All-CAA with 16 stolen bases for the Seahawks. She is a 4-year softball star & 2017 CAA Defensive Player of the Year. She has contributed 110 hours of community service in Wilmington. The Seahawks recorded school record 35 wins in 2017. Bryan earned 2017 North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association All-State Team selection. UNCW softball team earned the inaugural CAA Team Academic Achievement Award. The Seahawks 3.498 team GPA in 2016-17, claimed their first appearance in the CAA Championship in 10 years setting school record 10 game win streak. They posted the best fielding percentage in program history with a CAA-leading .977 mark. Bryan earned All-CAA first team honors after leading the conference with 119 assists, posting .969 fielding percentage. She started every game for the Seahawks at short w/ .325 BA & league leading 15 sacrifices. Bryan 1-3 with SB in 4-1 win over Hampton. Seahawks. Bryan singles and scores the winning run in her 100th Seahawk softball game in 11-inning 2-1 UNC Wilmington win over Robert Morris.
Emanuel Perez (’17) selected to US Under-20 Men's National Team for 12-day training camp in Florida before matches vs Honduras National Team on May 17th & 19th in San Pedro Sula. The NC State star joined the U-20s on a trip to Spain in March, participated in the inaugural United States Men's Soccer Youth National Team Summit Camp in Florida in January, and also spent time with the organization at a camp in October 2017. Perez earned US Soccer Coaches All-South Region Second Team and the TopDrawerSoccer Freshman Best XI First Team & ACC Freshman of the Year & 2nd team All-ACC Perez scored 3 game-winning goals & 14 points this season for #22 NC State. He was named the All-conference 2nd team. The Pack with Will Ramirez (’15) & #22 NC State soccer nipped 1-0 by Virginia Tech in 2017 ACC Men's Soccer Tournament opener. Perez scored two goals and assist on the third to give NC State soccer 3-2 upset win over #5 Louisville on ESPN3. Perez earned National Player of the Week and ACC Offensive Player of the Week for his outstanding match. Perez registered his 3rd game-winning goal of the season for the Wolfpack which include Perez is ranked 9th in NCAA Freshmen by Top Drawer Soccer. Perez earned NCAA Player of the Week after scoring the GW over #3 Clemson. Perez assists on both Wolfpack goals in 2-1 win over #14 UNC Wilmington. Perez goal at 78 minutes sends the Wolfpack to overtime at William & Mary in 3-2 OT loss. Perez three goals in four matches this season. Perez recorded his first college goal is the game-winner in NC State 3-2 season opening win vs Florida Atlantic.

Warren Messer (’15) named Elon football Team MVP. The 2017 FCS All-American junior linebacker also earned All-CAA honors after recording 114 tackles for The Phoenix. Messer & #15 Elon season ends with 28-27 FCS Playoff loss to Furman. Messer records 10 tackles for the 7th time this season, with 2 QB hurries in the 10th best season by Elon defender in school history (114 tackles for The Phoenix junior linebacker). Messer earns 2017 All-CAA honors. Messer has reached 222 tackles for his career, 51 less than Trojan alum and Hall of Famer Lamar Adams (’88) for 10th in Elon history. Messer posted game-high 12 tackles with 2 sacks at N.Hampshire. He had 8 tackles and two QB hurries in 33-30 2OT Homecoming win over Towson & 5 stops with two sacks in 19-14 win at #13 Villanova. The Phoenix 4 wins over ranked opponent this season. His interception with 34 seconds left seals 35-34 win at Rhode Island. The Phoenix capture the school's 500th win in their history this year. Messer's tackle for safety clinches 25-17 win over William & Mary. He earned Academic All-Star of the Week after his 15 tackles in Elon 36-33 upset at #6 Richmond. Messer interception at the Spiders 18 sets up the game-winning FG for The Phoenix. He records a sack, forced fumble with the pick-off & 1.5TFL. Wellington Guzman ('17) goes 2-4 with double for Winston-Salem State vs #8 Georgia College. Guzman was named the 2018 Winston-Salem State Freshman of the Year. Guzman hitting .280 with 10 homers & 29RBI for the Rams, taking over as starting shortstop in 8th game of season for the 27-16 Rams. He slams his 10th homer of the season for Winston-Salem State at N.Georgia. The Rams host Saint Augustine next Saturday for DH 1PM at Finch Field in Thomasville. Guzman hit his 8th & 9th homers of the year vs Lincoln (box scores just posted) with 8 RBI in 4-for-6 doubleheader & went 2-4 with a critical game-tying RBI for Winston-Salem State vs Belmont Abbey. Guzman is hitting .322 for the Rams since taking over as the starting shortstop. Guz has two doubles for the Rams in series finale vs #29 Pembroke. Guzman slams his 6th homer of the season vs Braves in the series. Guzman scorching 3-4, 2RBI day in 10-4 win over Jefferson. Coach Cullen Hodges ('13) & Trojan cheerleaders Ashton Sims (’18) Sutton Hodges (’19) & the Cheer Extreme SSX take the 2018 World Title. The Sharks capture their second world title & also won the National Cheerleading Championships in Dallas earlier this year. Great job Sharks!
Jacob Bowes ('12) shared his engineering knowledge with Engineering Elective students at Underwood Elementary School in Raleigh. Bowes, a 2016 civil engineering graduate of NC State University, is a dedicated volunteer with Holland's United Methodist Church learned as Chancellor's Aide for the Wolfpack. Bowes was featured for his volunteer work with NC State Engineering Foundation to raise money for the College’s improvement projects. Mr Bowes works at McKim & Creed Engineering.
Trojan basketball Jaren Ellerbe & Donovan Evans earn All-Star selection at Big Shots Carolina April tournament. Ellerbe leads the team in scoring with 30-point game in the championship game and a 23-point game against TLBA. He also scored 19 and 18 points in the other two games. Evans was in double-figures in three games. He scored 13 points against the Carolina Defenders, 14 points against TLBA and 23 points against Team FLY.
Trojan Hall of Famer David West ('99) & Golden State take 3-1 West Semifinals lead with 118-92 win over New Orleans. West has 4 pts, 2 assists and block for the defending champions. They look to advance Tuesday night at the Chase Center 10:30PM Eastern on TNT. The Dubs won game two 121-116 win. West has 5 assists, 4 points, 3 rebounds and 2 blocks for the defending NBA Champs. The Warriors advance to the second round with their 99-91 win at San Antonio. West has 7 rebounds, 4 points, 3 assists, 2 steals and block for the Warriors who win the series 4-1, will face New Orleans in the West semifinals beginning Saturday. West has 4 points, 3 rebounds & assist for the Pacific Division champs in game one opener. West scored 9pts, 4reb, block and steal vs New Orleans in 125-115 win as the Warriors became the first team in NBA history to overcome two 20-point halftime deficits in the same season (Nov. 18 at Philadelphia). Kenneth Perkinson (’13) earns Winthrop University Top Scholar Athlete Award. The senior soccer star recognized for the highest GPA at The Eagles “WUSPY’s” Awards Ceremony. His outstanding Winthrop soccer career ends at Gardner Webb. The Eagles suffer their 5th consecutive shutout in the loss. Perkinson records 5 saves for Winthrop soccer at Liberty. His Eagles fail to score for the 5th consecutive game & posts the shutout in 1-0 OT win for at Longwood, his 3rd shutout of the season for the Eagles. They fell at #4 UNC-Chapel Hill. Perkinson records 4 saves, his 47 for season is 9th in NCAA soccer this season. Winthrop soccer nipped 3-2 at Georgia State in 2OT & 7 saves in 3-0 shutout at Wofford in the Big South-SoCon Challenge. He has 10 saves in their opener at #15 Charlotte. Perkinson stops ten of 11 through 88 minutes before the home Niners break through for the 1-0 win. Nick Snell (’15) earns All-Conference Carolinas Track honors with his 9th place finish in 1500m for Belmont Abbey. Snell posts 4:22.72 for the Crusaders. Snell posts 4:20.34 in the 1500m at the Gamecock Invitational hosted by University of South Carolina & career best 2:09.18 in 800m & 4:19.04 in 1500m at Susan Rouse Invitational hosted by S.Wesleyan. His Belmont Abbey 4x400 Relay team records 3:40.82 for 6th. Snell posts 2:10.57 in the 800m & 4:25.44 in 1500m at the Adidas Winthrop Invitational. Snell ran 4:44 mile & 9:46.36 in the 3000k for Belmont Abbey at the Capital City Invitational at JDL in Winston-Salem. Snell runs 9:50.11 for 2nd at the November JDL Kickoff 3K. The two-time Presidential Honor Roll recipient from Belmont Abbey ran unattached recording his personal best time at that distance.

Tylor Whitley (’17) Tylor Whitley (’17) fires an 81 in round two for Missouri Science and Technology golf at the Great Valley Conference Championships. Whitley jumps to 20th with her two round 165. The Miners 10th with round to go at Fox Run Golf Club in Eureka MO. She fires final round 81 to finish 6th at the Natural State Golf Classic at Red Apple Country Club. The Miners finish 3rd in the tournament. They compete in the Great Valley Conference Championships April 27-29th. Whitley records two-round 169 leads Miners golf at the Missouri-St. Louis Spring Invitational at Whitmoor Country Club in St. Charles, Mo. The Miners claim 8th place. Whitley leads Missouri Science & Technology golf with two-round 163 good for 4th at the Rockhurst Spring Invitational in Wichita. Whitley posts the Miners low score both rounds to lead them to 3rd place team finish. The Miners won Palm Springs Tournament at Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort in California. He earned Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the Week. Hudson 7-inning 3-hitter with 12Ks over Southern Wesleyan. He pitches 6 innings with 10Ks in 5-3 win over Belmont Abbey & 6 innings with 9Ks in 16-4 win at Barton. He pitches 8-inning 2-hitter with 14Ks in win over Davis & Elkins. He pitched 7 innings with 8Ks at USC Aiken & 11 strikeout, one-hit performance in 6-5 comeback win at Lander to open the season. The top-ranked Mount Olive repeated as 2017 Conference Carolinas Champions. The Trojans rally with 2-run 9th to down Belmont, after fighting their way back from opening round tournament loss with 5 tournament wins. Hudson was selected 2016 NCBWA All-Southeast Region Honorable Mention. Hudson pitched a complete game with three strikeouts in his victory over the No. 1 seed Columbus State & was named to 2016 Conference Carolinas All-Conference team. Hudson earns second team honors with his 2.39 ERA in 16 games with 34K’s & 6-2 record.

The Award is presented for outstanding football performance, scholastic achievement and school leadership. Stephens, a two-sport star for Garner will be playing baseball next year for Catawba Valley. Taylor Coppedge (13) competes in 2018 Dance World Championship this weekend. Miss Coppedge is an 8-year veteran dancer, competing with her 10th Championship team. Her Premier Athletics Supa Novaz finish 4th in the US at the 2017 Dance World Championships held in Orlando, FL. Supa, competes in the Open Coed Hip Hop class. The team won the 2015 World title.
Samuel Stidwell ('14) & Vincent Jefferies ('13) earn MEAC Commissioner's Cup honors. The student athletes recognized for achieving +3.0 GPA for the 2017 calendar year. Stidwell is a Junior member of the National Champion NC A&T (11-0) football team & Jefferies is a draft-eligible senior for Florida A&M football.

James Mays (’04) & Seoul SK claim the South Korean Pro League Championship. The Knights are first team in league history to rally from down 0-2 & take the title. Mays has 12 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 steals in the series clinching 6th game vs top-seed DB Promy. Mays scores 22 with 4 rebounds & 3 steals in game five win & scores 26 in 101-99 OT game three win & 27 in game two of the Championship series. Mays recorded 17 with 13 rebounds for SK Knights of South Korea Professional League semifinals vs KCC Egris. He poured in 32 with 12 boards for in 89-80 win over KCC Egis. Mays recently starred in 2017 for Qingdao of the China National Pro League before joining the Knights, where he recorded 11 double-doubles in 15 China National Basketball League games. Rain ends the scheduled 2nd round after 10 holes in their spring season opener. Ceyrolles posts 84 in her round one for the 16th-ranked Monarchs who head to Jekyll Island Invitational in Georgia March 16-18th. Methodist finish 2nd place at Chick-Fil-A Collegiate in Rome GA. Ceyrolles shoots two round 165 good for 35th in the individual results. Methodist won the Generals Invitational. Bailey Benjamin ('17) & Guilford College lacrosse take 14-9 win at Virginia Wesleyan to open Old Dominion Conference play. The Quakers (5-2) host Cazenovia Wednesday, March 14th. Guilford downs Pfeiffer 21-13 & won 8-4 at Methodist. The team raised $7,657 for the Autism Society of North Carolina at the 2017 Greensboro Run/Walk for Autism on September 30. The men's & women's team well exceeded their goal of $5,000. The event raised a total of $52,653 for the ASNC. Six of the top 10 finishers were Quaker athletes.

Chandler 15 points & 7 rebounds on her Francis Marion Senior Day win over Georgia College & 26 points in 68-56 win over USC Aiken, hitting six 3's with 6 rebounds & 3 assists for the Patriots. Chandler posted game high 25 points at Georgia College with 5 rebounds, 3 steals and an assist for the Patriots. She averaging 23ppg, including her career 1,000th point, to be named Peach Belt Player of the Week. She records game-high 23 points to top career 1,000 points in 69-65 loss to Wingate & scored 24 in 80-65 win over N.Greenville in PBC/Conference Carolinas Challenge with has 4 rebounds, 2 assists the night after reaching 1,001 career points in her Patriots career. She led the Patriots to the 2017 Peach Belt Conference Tourney semifinals after her squad placed second in the PBC's East Division standings. At the end of the season, the Patriots won nine straight games. The Patriots 24-8 in 2015 season and reached the NCAA DII Elite 8.

He scores a career high 21 in his start at Shaw, shooting a blistering 6-of-8 from field, including 4-5 from the arc for the Rams. He scored 12 in his start vs Saint Augustine with two assists.

2017 SRA Champion Kristin Yde (’09) & Smack claim the title at World’s Toughest Rodeo at PNC Arena. The dynamic duo defend their 2017 title when they set the arena record. Yde was featured in the inaugural issue of Nodfree Magazine. Yde complete the IPRA season as the #2 Rookie of the Year ranked professional in her first nationwide schedule. Yde & Smack finished 4th at the IFR 48 in Oklahoma City. They repeated their 2017 SRA Championship. Yde earned her title in 3 round competition & grossed the most prize earnings in the circuit. Yde won the Benson Barrel Race. She finished the IPRA Rookie of the Year Standings, 2nd with Mule Days Barrel Racing Champ, Monroeton PA win, Gordonsville Va SEBRA, & Westminster SC IPRA/SRA. They won the Knightdale Rodeo barrel race with 16.4 #OxyGen fueled run season record time. Yde took 3rd at Edgefield SC Barrel race & 4th at the Rodéo International Valleyfield IPRA in Quebec with 15.9 second time, just 0.10 off the first place time. Yde took 3rd at Cheboygan IPRA & Attica NY IPRA. Ms Yde won at the Old Fort NC SRA/IPRA, Newport, Myrtle Beach, Tryon & Chatham VA SEBRA among others. Yde captures the World’s Toughest Rodeo barrel race with a new PNC Arena record run of 12.3, more than 0.7 better than the runner-up. Yde and Smack claim 2nd at the Bowling Green IPRA/Lone Star Rodeo, besting 83 horses competing. The first round winners post #OxyGen-fueled 15.9 run after 15.881 in round one. Yde & Smack won both rounds of the West Palm Beach & 2016 SRA Horse of the Year claimed the Southern Rodeo Association Championship.

Florida A&M senior Vincent Jefferies ('13) scores the winning TD for the Brave squad in the 2018 HBCU Spirit of America Bowl. Jefferies rushes for 21 yards and 5-of-6 passing for 38 yards in the 14-7 All-Star game win. The nationally televised game in Salem Stadium in VA culminated 4-days of pro scouting and draft preparation activities in January. Congrats Mr. Jefferies!

Trojan Hall of Famer and 4-time All-Star Brandon Banks (’06) signs for additional year with the Hamilton of the CFL. The 1,011-yard receiver in 2017 earned CFL Top Performer of the Week honours twice & league Top Performer of the Month in October after recording 5 straight 100-yard games for his 5th year with the Ticats, posting +2000 all-purpose yards three consecutive seasons. He earned his 4th consecutive CFL East All-Star Honor for the first time as a wide receiver after three-straight selections as a kick return specialist. Banks recorded 193 yards receiving with two TDs vs Ottawa. Banks scores from 42 and 12 yards (10 touchdowns for the year), and with 23 return yards, the CFL Player of the Week records consecutive +200 yard nights. He earned CFL Player of the Week after scoring on 65-yard punt return TD & 65-yard TD catch in Hamilton 43-16 win over Montreal. Banks finishes with 129 receiving yards and 111 return yards & recorded 60-yard TD catch in Hamilton 30-13 win at Winnipeg with his 104 yards receiving. The newest 2017 Trojan Hall of Fame inductee earned 2017 CFL Special Teams Player of the Year became the Tiger-Cats all-time kickoff return yardage leader (3,047) finishing the regular season ranked first in the league in missed field goal return yards, second in kickoff return yards and fifth in punt return yards in 16 games.

The MEAC Champions win 24-10 win over NC Central in the Aggie-Eagle Classic. The Aggies are the first MEAC team ever with undefeated season. Aggies down Bethune-Cookman with Asst Coach Carl Franks (’79) 24-20. The claimed 31-20 win at Florida A&M with Vincent Jefferies ('13). The win matches the 1927 & 1943 Aggies for best start in school history. Aggies win 49-17 MEAC win at Morgan State. They destroy Mars Hill 56-0 after blasting Gardner-Webb 45-3 in their season opener.

Collin Eaddy (’17) earns the Donold B. Lourie Award for Freshman Offensive Player of the Year by Princeton football. Eaddy rushed for 384 yards & 2TDs in his first year for the Tigers. Princeton nipped 38-35 at Penn. Tiger FG attempt with 7 seconds left is wide left. Eaddy 9 yards rushing on four carries for the 5-3 Tigers. Eaddy scored on 32-yard TD and piles up 99 yards in Princeton 52-17 win over Harvard on NBC Sports Channel. Eaddy leads the defending Ivy League champs to 5-1 with a career high 83 rushing & 16 receiving. Eaddy recorded his first college TD for Princeton in 53-0 blasting at Brown. Eaddy records 77 yards rushing with 4-yard TD for the Tigers who improve to 4-1. He rushed for 67 yards rushing for Princeton in 50-30 win over Georgetown. Eaddy has 14 yard receiving in the game. Eaddy rushed for 62 yards in their Ivy League opener vs Columbia. The defending conference champs (2-1) edged 28-24. Princeton with 38-17 win at Lafayette. Eaddy rushed for 15 yards in their season opening 27-17 win vs San Diego.
Sarah Dancausse (’16) & UNC Club Soccer reach the Sweet 16 in Arizona with wins over SMU & Penn State. The team claimed the Regional Championship with shutout win over Florida. The Heels improve to 13-0 this season, taking wins over (2-1), Tennessee (4-0) & UVA (3-1) during their 5th straight regional title. The Heels won the Hokie Invitational Tournament title at Va Tech. The Heels down Georgia 2-0 in the championship to improve to 9-0 for the season. The Heels were 21-2-1 & 2016 National runner-up last season. UNC Club soccer opened their season 3-0 with wins over UNCW, App State and High Point.
Asst Coach Brandon Sanders (’98) & Florida State destroy Delaware State 77-6 for Seminole Homecoming win. The Noles travel to rival Florida Nov. 25th noon kickoff on ESPN. FSU won 17-10 at Duke on ESPN2. The Noles get 26-19 ACC win at Wake Forest. Coach Sanders and the Noles who finish 10-3 last season with a senior class that won a school record 59 games. He is in his 5th season with FSU as Strength and Conditioning Coach.

Jeremy Woodard, (’97) joins the cast of "School of Rock The Musical" for limited engagement. Woodard toured with the cast of “Wicked” most recently before rejoining 4-time Tony nominated production as Theo for six weeks. The ECU theater grad has extensive stage credits for The Last Ship, Rock of Ages, Glory Days, Hairspray, Miss Saigon, & The Last Goodbye among several TV roles. Trojan Hall of Fame inductee Anthony Blaylock ('84) honored as 2017 CIAA Legend. Mr. Blaylock recognized in conjunction with 125th Anniversary of the conference for his outstanding achievements at WSSU Athletics will be inducted in the Garner HOF May 2018. His 1987 CIAA Champion Winston-Salem team were recognized at halftime of the Rams home opener for their induction in the WSSU Hall of Fame. Blaylock earned individual induction honors previously after his pro career with Cleveland, San Diego and Chicago.
Courtney Weathersbee (’14) earns Conference Carolinas Presidential Honor Roll for the 4th consecutive season. The honor bestowed on student athletes who achieve +3.25GPA while participating in varsity athletics. Weathersbee had 27 assists and 7 digs in Senior Day sweep for Lees-McRae volleyball over Mount Olive. The Bobcats honor their 6th all-time assist leader. Weathersbee leads sweep at Converse. Weathersbee match-high 30 assists and 6 digs and a kill for the Bobcats who play at Fayetteville State Tuesday. She recorded her 12th double-double for Lees-McRae volleyball at Limestone. The Bobcats 6th all-time assist leader posts 20 on the night and add 16 digs with a kill & 25 assists 8 digs & a kill in Lees-McRae volleyball 3-0 sweep over Bluefield State & 30 assists and 14 digs for the Bobcats. She recorded 23 assists at Virginia-Wise to move into 6th place in Bobcats history. Weathersbee has 14 digs & 2 kills for LMC. She had career high 49 assists for Lees-McRae volleyball in 5-set loss to Emmanuel. She earned Conference Carolinas Presidential Honor Roll honors for Lees-McRae volleyball given to student-athletes for +3.2 GPA. Weathersbee was the team leader in assists last season. The senior posted career bests in kills (16), assists (572), digs (182) and service aces (25).

Jackson Pleasant (’10) earns spot in the FLW All-American in Shreveport with his 3-day total of 39 pounds at the FLW Regional Championship in the Bass Fishing League in Hampton, VA. Pleasant 6th place finish guarantees All-American status.
Senior captain Marcus Davis selected to the 2017 NC Shrine Bowl team. Davis joins Head Coach Thurman Leach who will assist on the squad as well as Shrine Bowl Hall of Fame Medical staff Mike Guerrero ('82) and Team Doctor Greg Pleasants ('87). Davis two-way workhorse for Coach Leach with 35 tackles and career 23 sacks on defense and has rushed for 5.9 yards per carry and TD. The certified team leader and remarkable young man, well deserved honor for our Trojan. Davis is the 24th selection from Garner in the history of the event.

Ferrell earns MVP honors in Garner Road All Star League.. Ferrell scores game-high 21 for Garner Road Creecy at the adidas Uprising in Las Vegas. Ferrell 8-13 from floor with two rebounds in GR loss to Compton Elite. Creecy down Game Elite 71-54 at the adidas Uprising 17U Championship. Ferrell 9 points, 5 rebounds for GR who go 4-1 at the prestigious national tournament.

Nick Snell (’15) & Belmont Abbey cross-country took 9th at National Catholic Championships hosted by Notre Dame. The Crusaders competed in the non-DII event, won by Loras College. They head to Wingate Sept. 23rd for the Bulldog Stampede. Snell runs 31:52.6 for Belmont Abbey cross-country in their season opening Chick-Fil-A Invitational hosted by Catawba. The Crusaders finish 4th as a team. Belmont at National Catholic Championships hosted by Notre Dame Sept. 15th. Snell earned Conference Carolinas Presidential Honor Roll for Belmont Abbey track/cross-country, given to student-athletes for achieving +3.2 GPA. The Crusaders Cross-Country earned The Messick Award for outstanding sportsmanship, including players, coaches, staff, and fans. . Snell ran 18:04.66 in the 5K at Conference Carolinas Championship at JDL FastTrack. The meet concludes the Crusaders indoor season with the outdoor schedule coming up soon. Snell ran a 10:00.07 in the 3000m at UNCG Spartan Challenge at the JDL Fast Track in Winston Salem.. Snell posted 4:56.60 mile for Belmont Abbey track at Art & Linda Maillet Open in Chapel Hill. Snell records 37:35.22 for Belmont Abbey cross-country at tje NCAA Division II Southeast Region Championship in Montevallo, AL. The Crusaders conclude their 2016 season until spring track. Snell ran 32:02.60 for Belmont Abbey cross-country at the 2016 Conference Carolinas Cross-Country Championships at Franke Liske Park in Concord, NC. The Crusaders finish 8th in the 8K event.. Snell records 30:36.7 for Belmont Abbey cross-country at Winthrop/Adidas Invitational 8K in Rock Hill, SC.

Jefferies with 95 yards passing for the Rattlers (1-1) who face Tennessee State at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Sept. 16th 6PM. Jefferies scores on 12-yard TD run in Florida A&M 29-7 season opening win over Texas Southern. Jefferies second season with the Rattlers after transferring from Santa Rosa JC. Jefferies directed the game-winning drive in Florida A&M 19-14 win over Savannah State.. Jefferies was 3-for-4 passing for 40 yards, rushing for 22 yards on two carries. A&M fell 20-17 to Tuskegee in the 5th Quarter Classic played in Mobile AL. Jefferies 2-for-3 passing for the Rattlers. Jefferies signs with the Rattlers after leading Santa Rosa JC to a 7-3 record in his ten games at QB with 1,920 yards passing & 12 TDs plus 4 rushing scores. Jefferies is the Trojans all-time winningest QB, 3-year 40-5 record led the Trojans to a 4A runner-up season in 2011 & Eastern final last season.
Greg Milhouse (’12) & Seattle claim their final preseason game 17-13 at Oakland on NFL Network. Milhouse stop on 3rd & 1 with 3:10 left sets up Raider FG allowing the Seahawks drive for the winning score with 1:10 left to complete 4-0 exhibition schedule. They open their season at Green Bay Sept. 10th. & Seattle improve to 3-0 in preseason with 26-13 exhibition win over Kansas City. Milhouse recorded his first sack with Seattle in their 48-17 win over the LA Chargers in their preseason opener. Milhouse joins the Seattle Seahawks after a season with Saskatchewan of the CFL. Milhouse spent the NFL preseason with NY Giants. Milhouse records two tackles & QB hurry for NY Giants in their preseason loss at Buffalo. Milhouse had a sack and three tackles in the Giants preseason opener vs the Dolphins. The Two-time All-Pioneer League standout with Campbell impressed the scouts with a stellar pro day and outstanding performance in the NFLPA Bowl. Milhouse earned All-Pioneer League honors for the 2nd straight year.

Trojan freshman Alex Nunley (’21) claims National Championships in all 3 of his events at the 2017 USATF Junior Olympics 200m hurdles 24.73, 100m 11.23 & 100m hurdles 12.94. Nunley opens his 2017 USATF Junior Olympics with the top qualifying time in the 200m hurdles 25.15 to advance to the Sunday finals. He added the top time in the 100m hurdles with 13.22 & advanced in the 100m with 11.10 to the Sunday finals in all three events. Well done, Mr. Nunley!!.
Justin Gibson (’12) is the Lighting Director for Playhouse on the Square in Memphis TN, which will observe the 40th anniversary of its founding this year. Gibson, graduate of ECU in Theater Arts, worked three seasons with Ohio Light Opera Theater.

Taylor Stephens (’13) & North Wake Fungo split their Carolina-Virginia League playoff games, with 4-1 win over Mooresville 4-1 but dropping 7-3 decision to Fuquay. Stephens records three assists, two putouts in both games starting at second. The Fungo turns 3 DP’s. Stephens was 2-4 w/RBI in North Wake Fungo 10-3 win over Charlotte Crushers. Stephens was named summer MVP of the Carolina-Virginia Collegiate Baseball League team.
Demetric Horton (’18) game-high 21 points for Garner Road Coleman at adidas Uprising in Las Vegas. Horton added two assists, two rebounds & steal for GR, edged by Game Elite 64-61. Horton had 13 for Garner Road Coleman in 70-50 win over SRI All-Stars at the adidas Uprising in Las Vegas. Horton hits 4-of-6 from the arc and dishes 5 assists. Horton scored 20 vs Urban DFW at the national tourney.

Former Trojan John Wall named to the University of Kentucky Hall of Fame. Wall earned national player of the year & first-team All-American with the Wildcats in 2010 leading UK to #1 ranking. He was the first #1 overall NBA Draft pick in UK history Currently NBA All-Star with Washington and is the career leader in assists and steals.

Perez, 2016 All-American selection from the Capital Railhawks Academy has 8 goals in 24 games this season. Perez scores in Capital Area Railhawks Academy 5-0 win over IMG Academy in Bradenton FL. The Railhawks sweep their Florida weekend with 4-1 win over Chargers U-17/18. Perez records goals in both Capital Area Railhawks Academy weekend wins over Weston FC 5-0 & blast Kendall SC 9-2. He tallies a goal in the Railhawks 3-2 loss to league leader Atlanta United FC U-17/18. Perez earned 2016 NSCAA Youth Boys All-America Team honors. Perez goal salvages 1-1 tie for the Railhawks vs Chargers Soccer Club U-17/18 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The Railhawks down Carolina Rapids 4-0 to open their season. She hit .342 in her sophomore season with a .474 slugging percentage and received USA South All-Sportsmanship honors. She was 1-3, w/double for Meredith in 2-1 win over Saint Andrews. The Avenging Angels sweep the doubleheader. She had a 2-RBI double in Meredith 7-3 win at the D9 Cirtus Classic in Kissimmee FL over Emerson, The Avenging Angels beat #12 Worcester Polytechnic Institute 9-5 in their nightcap.

Abrom records his 5th double-double of the season for the Bulldogs in their 6th straight win. He tallied career high 26pts 12reb 5 assists for Pitt CC in 111-98 win over Pasco-Hernando State College. Abrom led Pitt CC with 21 points and 6 rebounds in their 101-81 win at Lenior CC. Abrom had 10pt/11rebound double-double in Pitt CC 103-95 win over Guilford Technical Community College. Leischner’s 200y medley relay finishes 3rd with 1:43.07, 4th in 100y breaststroke with 1:06 & 200y freestyle relay takes 4th with 1:32.79. He swims 23.32 50y freestyle, 51.31 100y freestyle & his 400yard freestyle relay posts 3:30.99 in the two day event. His 200yard freestyle relay team with the win for Birmingham-Southern College swimming vs Sewanee/West Florida. Former GPD Lt. Bob Stevens (’79) has been appointed to the National Child Passenger Safety Board. Stevens is the state’s Law Enforcement Liaison for the Governor’s Highway Safety Program. Stevens served for thirty years as a law enforcement officer with the Garner NC Police, supervising the Traffic Division. The program is used to train and certify child passenger safety technicians and instructors.

Anna Bennett (’16) is serving a Global Gap year, for community service in Myanmar (Southeast Asia), living at a Christian minority Orphanage. Trojan Hall of Fame inductee Tim Stevens (’70) wins two awards from the NC Society of Historians for his musical “More Than A Name.” The play which featured many Garner alumni, recounts lives of prominent citizens from our hometown. The presentation at the Garner Performing Arts Center was hugely successful, a follow-up to his acclaimed “War At Your Door,” a historical musical about Garner and its people during World War II. It is a story of heroism, tragedy, sacrifice and love with many Garner alumni involved in the directing, art and performances.

The 1978 NCHSAA 4A Champion Lady Trojans basketball held a reunion Oct. 22nd in Raleigh. The legendary team that went 26-0 was joined by their HOF Coach Lawrence Dunn. These athletes returned to the 1979 title game and most were members of the 1978 & 79 #1 softball team in the state.

Campbell soccer shut out Belmont 2-0. Perez has a shot on goal in Campbell soccer 1-0 OT win at Howard. The Camels reached their first semifinal since joining Big South last season.

Ka’asha Jefferies (’14) has 2 digs, 2 returns & assist for Pembroke volleyball in loss at Wingate. The Braves drop their nightcap vs Erskine. Pembroke volleyball drop a narrow 5-set loss to Kentucky St at the Eckerd College Invitational in St. Petersburg FL. Jefferies has 9 digs and an ace. Jefferies has 2 digs and 2 returns in their loss to New Haven in the tournament finale.

Congratulations Macon Jones (’96) named to the Mount Olive 2016 Hall of Fame. Jones was the CVAC Player of the Year in 2000 & MOU Most Outstanding Student Athlete after leading the Trojans to NCAA appearances in 1999 & 2000 as .396 hitting shortstop, 6th highest in MOU history. Jones joins fellow Garner baseball great Steve Hudson (’87) in the MOC Hall of Fame (inducted in 2010 & 2015 Trojan Hall of Fame inductee.

Mayor Ronnie Williams (’66) is named the 2016 James R. Stevens Service Award recipient. The 5-term leader of our hometown honored for his outstanding contributions to our hometown, spanning decades He was selected by a panel of judges that included Town officials, a Garner Chamber of Commerce representative, a Stevens family member and community leaders. The Mayor will be formally recognized at a reception Aug. 16th.

The 19th KWLA served as a kickoff event for the 58th Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament. The event has donated over $4 million for charity since 1988.
